Very rare Belgium Congo hand-carved antique jug. We found this wooden African jug at an antique shop here in Belgium. The prior owner said it was from the Belgium Congo part of Africa and probably dates from around the 1930s
The Belgian Congo was a Belgian colony in Central Africa between 1908 and 1960 in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This unique wooden water carrier has that Central African wood carving style that was very popular in that period.
I can't see any joints or seams so this looks to be carved out of a solid piece of wood then hollowed out with a special tool.
Most likely this was just a simple wooden water carrier but also could be a very unique antique whiskey jug.
When you shake the wooden jug there is something small inside rattling around. Possibly a small piece of wood or something else. Doesn’t affect the jug at all just wanted to add it to the description.
