This is one amazing rare antique terracotta sculpture that is just to die for. It could be used as a garden sculpture, plant holder, or candle holder. We found this beautiful terracotta statue at an antique shop here in Belgium and is believed to date from the late 1800s to the turn of the century.
Originally this terracotta sculpture was all green but because of years of being outside, you get this amazing wear that gives it this amazing look.
Online I found the U&C 620 mark on the underside is from J. Uffrecht & Co and was used on earthenware circa in 1895. It was used on Austrian, German, and Bohemian porcelain. Uffrecht manufactured earthenware from 1850 to 1924. Talking with some of our antique colleges we think this is more at the beginning of his career.
Being this old and terracotta it's normal to have small chips and nicks. This does have small pieces missing on all sides but no large pieces are missing. The top lip of the hat does have a small piece removed on the inside along with a good section of the green. It does not go all the way to the top of the hat so when looking from the top the hat is complete and is solid.
When you flip the statue upside down you can hear a small piece of terracotta knocking around but that probably came to lose a long time ago and will be there for another hundred years.
